WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Day 1 Morning Session: Will focus on: Identification and definition of detail tasks, problem solving techniques, decomposition of entities, solution design personnel, ten key attributes of successful projects, SSDM interface with project management, entities, attributes and measurements, solution design walk throughs.
Day 1 Afternoon Session: Review and discuss the seven steps in solution design beginning with Vision through Solution Sustaining. We will discuss the advantages of a structured methodology to analyze, design and implement a solution. Customer, output and process decomposition will be examined.
Day 2 Morning Session: We will divide into teams of 4 to 6 students. Case studies will be selected. Teams will spend time following the seven steps of SSDM with short presentations after each step. We will work through the steps of Vision, Conceptual Design and Logical design during the morning session.
Day 2 Afternoon: We will continue to analyze, define and build our solutions creating downstream detail tasks along the way. Teams will work on Physical Design, Build & Test, Implementation, and Solution Monitoring and Sustaining. Teams will make brief presentations.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES: Attendees will gain an in-depth understanding of how to decompose a problem and design, implement and sustain a robust solution. We will cover how to identify detail tasks and develop a robust project schedule. This is a very valuable learning opportunity for project managers, engineers, analysis, leaders and IT professionals.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLOGIES: Material presented will be a combination of lecture, class discussion, group exercises, and problem solving.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
This workshop is scheduled for approximately 16 hours over 2 days.
